If the make-up magpie in you is itching to try something new, you need to try Tom Ford’s new SS18 Shadow Extreme Eye Shadow, £29, immediately. Used at his SS18 runway show to create those immense rounded off winged lined eyes, it’s a deep, carbon black shadow that’s spiked with tiny particles of silver – but this is not just any silver glitter, it’s Tom Ford silver glitter.

This means that a) it won’t flick all around your face and end up under your eyes when you blend; b) it is so finely-milled that you won’t end up looking like a mad pop star from the ‘90s, and c) it somehow adds to the wearability of the black shadow by illuminating it and making it more forgiving.
Here are three ways to wear it:
Catwalk style. The runway version is, as you’ve probably guessed, the most extreme way of wearing it. If you’d like to ape that version, trace your shape with a black kohl, fill in with liquid, and then press the shadow on top.
Going out out eyes. If you want something that’s still dramatic but a little less avant garde, try our version of a smokey eye with the glittery shadow, taking a big hoop of the shadow across the eyelid, and a little underneath to pull it together. If you apply it damp, you’ll get the most shimmer from the finish – and it also makes it easy to apply without any fall down at all. Make sure you apply LOTS of mascara to finish the look off.
Day-to-day. If, however, you just want to add a bit of glitter and illuminate eyes, grab a liner brush, sweep it across the shadow, and press it across your lash line to make eyes pop and add definition in one whammy.
